Serves: 1 mug

Ingredients
  • 8 oz very strong coffee (or 1 - 2 shots of espresso)
  • ½ c milk (see note)
  • 1 tbsp. + 1 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp. honey or agave
Instructions
  1. Brew your coffee and keep it hot.
  2. Whisk together the milk, cocoa, and honey in a large bowl or glass. Microwave for one minute, until very hot.
  3. If you're lucky enough to have a milk frother, froth the hot chocolatey milk. If you don't have a frother, whisk the hot milk in a large bowl until foam forms on the surface (this will take about 2 - 3 minutes, depending on how hard you're whisking).
  4. Pour the milk over the coffee in a mug. Enjoy hot while cozied up on the couch!
Notes
Nutritional estimate is using nonfat milk. If you use unsweetened almond milk, it's around 100 calories.
I used cow's milk when preparing this but any milk will taste just fine. Nut and soy milks will not froth up as much, especially if you don't have a milk frother.
Note that some vegans don't eat honey -- if you're swapping the milk to make it vegan for a friend, make sure you ask about their opinions on honey.
