Liebster Award

November 10, 2013

Liebster

Hey everyone! Look at me, posting on a Sunday. I’m here feeling very honored that the lovely sisters over at Natural Sweet Recipes nominated me for the Liebster Award.  If you haven’t yet, head over and check their blog out – it’s full of amazing treats like cookie dough cheesecake bars  and healthy homemade Butterfingers that are all naturally sweetened and totally good for you.  The stuff dreams are made of, guys.

The Liebster Award involves passing on some blogger love and posing some questions to get to know your fellow bloggers better.  I’m a little lazy (and frankly, all of my questions would be about cats and cookies) so rather than asking more questions, I’m just going to point you in the direction of some of the blogs I read on the daily.  But first, here are my answers 🙂

~What is one product you couldn’t live without (food, beauty, etc.)?
Oddly enough, Nutritional yeast.  I sprinkle it on everything (even when there’s already real cheese involved) and make a cheese sauce at least once a week.

~Name 5 books we HAVE to read.
I’ve been slacking majorly on reading lately.  When I do read, it’s a lot of scifi.  I’d say everyone should (and probably has) read the Harry Potter series, the Hunger Games, and Chronicles of Narnia.  I’ve also read The Beach by Alex Garland like a billion times and I have a few medical microbiology books from college I like to randomly flip through.

~Do you have any pets? What are their names?
I have three wonderful kitties.  I’ll even throw in some pictures of my boys (and updated the About Us page) so you can look at them any time you want 😉
Peter Parker is my orange fluffy baby who I got in college four years ago.  He prefers me to most other people, and I’m totally okay with that 🙂

We adopted Chester two years ago in February.  He’s such a cuddle monster and wont let you in the house without attacking you for cuddles.

Babe was my grandma’s kitty.  She’s legitimately almost as old as I am.  All she wants in the world is to cuddle up on your shoulder like a sweet old lady.

~Do you like surprises or are you a planner?
Both!  I’m a little bit of a control freak so it’s nice when I can sit back and let someone else have everything planned out for me (or not even realize there’s something to be planned!).

~What is your favorite thing to learn about/study?
Biology or pretty much anything science related.  I have a bachelors in Biomedical Science and I work in aquatic toxicology.

~How do you cope with stress or insecurities from blogging?
I’m notoriously bad with stress, but I don’t really get any from blogging.  If it stressed me out, I wouldn’t do it – I get enough stress in my day job.  My only insecurities stem from when someone attacks me or a recipe because they didn’t read thoroughly or they don’t like that there’s the option of a nonvegan or GF ingredient, but I’m pretty sure everyone gets recipe haters once in a while.

~What’s the most fun and spontaneous thing you’ve ever done?
Read the planner question!  I’m not often very spontaneous, but the best spontaneous decision I’ve ever made was adopting Chester.  A local pet store has shelter animals on display and I instantly fell in love with him, even though I thought I was a fluffy kitty only household.  I wasn’t even looking to adopt, but I called his foster mom and adopted him that very same night.

~If you could be anyone for a day, who would you be?
Do kitties count? I hold strongly to the fact that I’d like to be a cat for a day, but other than that, I actually don’t think I’d want to live a day in anyone else’s life.  It seems stressful!

~What is your favorite elementary school memory?
In fourth grade I got an award for testing the best in the school (possibly the district or a larger area? I cant remember) on a math test – that I didn’t even remember taking.  Just randomly got a trophy!

~Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging mostly as a way to keep track of my recipes.  Too often, Josh would talk about something delicious I made and I had no idea how to recreate it.  I also liked the idea of other people making and eating the recipes I came up with and still get really excited when someone tells me they tried and loved a recipe.

Now as promised, here are some of my favorite blogs!  My actual list is ridiculously long and there are obviously more “bigger” ones I follow, but I wanted to highlight just a couple, as I’ve already been incredibly long winded in this post.

Clean Eating Veggie Girl – Hannah and I have very similar food tastes.  There’s a 99% chance that I spend a solid hour day dreaming about her food after I look at her posts.  Plus her WIAW are full of SO MANY VEGGIES – it’s inspiring.

Olives ‘n Wine – Becky became a favorite of mine with her Treat Yourself Tuesday posts.  While I’ve never actually remembered to post on a Tuesday for it, I love the philosophy of celebrating yourself and splurging on treats 🙂

The Domestic Rebel – Hayley’s recipes are my go to when I want to splurge.  I’m pretty certain I’ve gotten 8 marriage proposals just from bringing these cookies to work.  Hayley has a great sense of humor and adorably crazy fashion sense.  Even if you aren’t looking for any ridiculously decadent and tasty recipes, follow her just to read the posts.

Joanne Eats Well With Others – Joanne is basically living the life I thought I would.  In New York City getting her MD/PhD making delicious foods all day – sounds like the perfect life, right? She also has a great sense of humor and her flavor combos are jamming.

Okay.  Long post, done talking now.  Enjoy your Sunday everyone!  There’s an 85% chance that I haven’t put on real pants yet. So. Calling this day a win.
